I am fanatical about having a shoe-free home. I'm also a bit of a germaphobe, so there you go. I have two toddlers and a baby on the way and the thought of any of them crawling around on a floor covered in germs from places I am not allowed to clean, repulses me. Anytime someone dares to wear shoes in my house, all I can think of is, "What public bathrooms have those shoes walked across?" or worse!
Being so adamant about shoes off in my house also leaves me with a bit of a challenge. I want people to feel welcome in my home and hate policing my policy. I feel like a meanie asking people to take off their kicks, but at the same time, I want my floors safe for the kids. I just don't have time to bleach down every surface after a guest leaves, so I came up with a fun way to get the message across loud and clear without feeling like the shoe police.
Mind you, this idea came to me yesterday while I was, in fact, bleaching down the floors.

In Estonia it's normal that people take their shoes off, but here in Spain it's normal to leave them on, and I hate it :S
ReplyDeletegreat great great idea! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI have decided to go shoe-free recently and was looking for a good way to let people know w/out, like you said, being rude or having to stand at the door and remind everyone. This is PERFECT! Thank you so, so much for sharing it! My reason was simply the dirt that my boys and all the neighborhood kids drag in, but I honestly never tho't about the germs! Yikes!
